Brothertiger - Lovers

Brothertiger is a chillwave band from Toledo, Ohio. Essentially a solo project for John Jagos, he first began recording in 2006 as Monoteque before switching to the Brothertiger name in 2009. Inspired by the ambient works of Brian Eno and M83, and the synth heavy new wave sounds of the eighties - Brother Tiger's work sounds like being lost in some mystical woozy arcade deep in the forest. Ok, so maybe that analogy just won me a spot for some blogger's list of the worst superfluous bloggers (the infinite cycle of cynicism continues), but still. It's pretty good, dude. Check out "You're Afraid" off his EP, Vision Tunnels.

You can stream that EP and download all of his other songs for free or next to nothing here.

Anamanaguchi - Air Brushed

Anamanaguchi is an 8-bit band from New York City. Unlike a lot of other 8-bit bands, though, they add a lot of rock elements to their music. They did the soundtrack for the Scott Pilgrim videogame and their song "Jetpack Blues, Sunset Hues" is used as the theme song for The Nerdist podcast. For the nerdier music geeks out there, their music has a lot of substance and melody to it beyond the usual slum of video game centered music. This song, "Air Brushed," was part of a 2010 summer singles set that was released for free on the band's website.

You can download this single and others (along with that epic GIF) here.

Airbrushed by Chilltastrophe

Chilltastrophe - what is?

Chilltastrophe is dedicated to retro-minded dance, rock, & electronic music like chillwave, 8 bit, & electro-pop. Each day, I'll post a new song from a different artist and write a short description about them or the song (if I've already mentioned the artist before). Today, I'll start off with the chillwave king - Neon Indian. Started by Alan Paloma in Denton TX, Neon Indian is a psychedelic dance group that has made music with The Flaming Lips & members of Grizzly Bear. His 2009 album, Psychic Chasms, got glowing reviews and heavy press. They're probably one of the most popular groups I'll post in here and the one people will know if they're actively searching for chillwave acts or things like it, but I figured I'd kick things off with a good start. Enjoy!
